Maple Burl Bowl (517), donated to Snowdrop Foundation Auction

2 1/4" tall, 9 3/8" wide (4 1/4" at the base), 1/4" to 1/2" thickness, weight 10.4 oz.
This is a highly figured piece of maple, finished with a food-safe walnut oil, buffed to a satin sheen.

Natural-Edged Elm Burl Bowl (542), $225

3 1/2" to 6 1/2" tall, 9 1/2" wide (3 1/4" at the base), 3/8" thickness, weight 1 lb 2 oz.
This piece was created from the same dead street tree, cut down in the northwest part of Denver, as vase 503.  It was dead and dry enough to allow me to turn it to its final wall thickness from the start, though the intermixed hard burl and softer wood made it tricky.  The natural-edged rim of the bowl was left in tact to give a sense of the burl that it came from.  It is finished with a wipe-on polyurethane, buffed to a satin sheen.

Elm Burl Bowl (512), $175

5 1/4" tall, 11 1/4" wide, 3/8" thickness, weight 1 lb 5 oz.
This piece was created from a dead street tree, cut down in the northwest part of Denver.  It has a partial natural-edged rim to give a sense of the burl that it came from.  It is finished with a wipe-on polyurethane, buffed to a satin sheen.

Elm Burl Platter (513), $175

2" tall, 13 3/8" wide, 1/4" thickness, weight 1 lb 5 oz.
This piece was created from a dead street tree, cut down in the northwest part of Denver (same as bowl 512).  It has a partial natural-edged rim and sapwood to give a sense of the tree that it came from, and a disc of walnut as a foot to raise it just slightly above the surface it sits on.  It is finished with a wipe-on polyurethane, buffed to a satin sheen.

Maple Burl Platter (516), $125

1" tall, 11 1/2" wide, 1/4" thickness, weight 15 oz.
This is a highly figured piece of maple with a natural bark inclusion which was filled with resin (you can actually see through it in areas).  It is finished with a wipe-on polyurethane, buffed to a satin sheen.

Maple Burl Bowl (545), $125

1 1/2" tall, 12" wide, 3/8" thickness, 5/8" rim, weight 1 lb.
This is a highly figured piece of maple, finished with a food-safe walnut oil, buffed to a satin sheen.

Walnut Bowl (520), $125

3 1/4" tall, 10 1/2" wide (3 1/2" at the base), 1/4" thickness, weight 12 oz.
This piece of walnut has some very nice figure, accentuated by the wide rim.  It has a base of contrasting light maple and is finished with a wipe-on polyurethane, buffed to a satin sheen.

Tamarix Burl Bowl (525), $50

2 1/2" tall, 5 1/4" wide (1 1/2" at the bottom), 3/16" thickness, weight 1.7 oz.
This piece was created from a Tamarix burl.  This invasive wood grows rampant along the streams of southern Utah and western Colorado.  While it is a nightmare for landowners and the BLM, the beautiful figure makes it a joy to work with.  Finished with a wipe-on polyurethane, buffed to a dull sheen.
